Thanksgiving

Fitting into a new family is apparently more challenging that I had suspected. There are very detailed rules in every family of acceptable joking, teasing, questioning, preparing food, using the kitchen, etc. Unfortunately, we are left on our own to observe and learn these rules without being able to ask about them openly. Actually, most families don't really know the rules in any sort of conscious way.

So I spent my holiday figuring out the subtleties of relating to his family. I even went to the 5am Wal-Mart sale with Mom and Sister. The established daughter-in-law dubbed us all crazy for getting up at 4am and went to bed (laughing at me, I'm certain.)

I have learned a lot about different ways of relating and living life over the past year. My first assumption has been that my way is right and everyone else is weird. But I'm starting to come around to the idea that I may indeed be the odd one.

I can't believe you both did the 5am Walmart trip! The only thing worth going for would have been their $370 HP Laptop (with DVD drive!), but I heard there were riots in the store over them, and its so not worth losing an arm over.

Sorry you have to learn new family rules; that's decidedly tough. But don't stress over Christmas! I can't wait to see you, and it's going to be so much fun!

Love you guys,
